This beautiful Indigenous set includes two books:
Shi-shi-etko
Shin-chi’s Canoe
Nature loose parts which includes: 20 rocks, 10 stones, 5 wooden pieces and 4 pieces of greenery.
Shi-Shi-etko- In just four days young Shi-shi-etko will have to leave her family and all that she knows to attend residential school. She spends her last days at home treasuring the beauty of her world- the dancing sunlight, that tall grass, each shiny rock, the tadpoles in the creek, her grandfather’s paddle song. Her mother, father and grandmother, each in turn, share valuable teachings that they want to remember. And so Shi-shi-etko carefully gathers her memories for safekeeping.
Shin-Chi’s Canoe- The system of residential schools was one of the great injustices perpetrated against First Nations in Canada and the United States. This moving sequel to award-winning Shi-shi-etkco is the haunting and beautifully written story of two children’s experiences at residential school.
